Abstract (EN)

Recreational areas are important to increase the welfare levels of people and ensure their mental well-being. These recreational areas give importance to people spending their free time and being in touch with nature. There are many recreational areas in Sinop, which is considered the happiest city of Turkey. This study aims to evaluate the usage and user satisfaction of recreational areas in the center of Sinop province. Data were collected through semi-structured interview forms and provide a comprehensive assessment of the status of recreational areas in the province. The research results indicate that the usage and user satisfaction of recreational areas are influenced by factors such as the size, diversity, accessibility, maintenance, and safety of the areas. Participants noted that recreational areas are insufficient and that parks and gardens are the most frequently used areas. It was particularly found that there are inadequate facilities in existing areas for disabled individuals and families with children.Participants requested more sports equipment, bicycle paths, and seating areas in recreational areas. This study provides an important resource for understanding the current status and user expectations of recreational areas in Sinop province. The findings can guide administrators and designers in more effectively designing and managing recreational areas.
