The effects of the low-density exercises with blood flow support on hypertrophy in individuals doing recretional resistance exercise

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to compare whether low exercise programs with blood flow restriction show the same hypertrophic effect as traditional hypertrophy training in individuals doing resistance exercises for recretional purposes. The sedentary individuals who weren't performing resistance exercises for at least 6 months attended at this study. Two different training methods, Blood Flow Restriction Training (BFR) and Hypertrophy Training (HT) were applied in the study. 18 volunteered sedentary individuals, aged between 18-21, willingly participated in the study. The individuals participating in the study were randomly divided into two groups, the study group (BFR) (9) and controlled group ( HT) (9). The participants in the BFR group were trained with 50% of 1 TM for the first two weeks for anatomical adaptation, and for the next 6 weeks and two days a week- with 20-30% loads of 1TM with a cuff attached to the biceps muscle, applying 130-150 mmhg pressure. The individuals in the control group also performed anatomical adaptation training for the first two weeks and HR training for the rest 6 weeks. Before and after eight weeks of training, biceps cross-sectional measurement and forearm flexion 1TMs were recorded. Before starting the trainings, 10 minutes of warm-up and 5 minutes of scretching were done. The analysis of data was made utilising the IBM SPSS 22 program. On the other hand, the normality of data was tested with Shapiro Wilk Test and by looking at the skewness and kurtosis values. The Wilcoxon Test was used for in-group performance measures in Independent Samples to combine the performances of the study and control groups on their measurements, while the Mann Whitney U Test was used for Dependent Samples to combine the performances of each group on both measures. Level of sigmificance was accepted as p<0.05.
