An analysis on resimli kitap mecmuasi, index with explanation and chosen texts

This study takes an in depth look at the Ottoman "Resimli Kitap" (Picture Book) magazine, which was published during the rather longwinded Second Constitutional Period, and that stood out because of its being illuminated with photographs and images. It was issued between September 1908 / October 1913 and February 1904—of which a total of 9 volumes and 51 issues were printed over the course of its 6-year lifespan. This dissertation will thus examine this magazine through various lenses. This dissertation is comprised of three main sections excluding the introduction. The introduction section enlightens the reader about the publishing world during the Second Constitutionalist Period and, respectively, the types of magazines/journals that were published during that period. The introduction section moreover compares publication censorship during the reign of Abdul Hamid II with the freedom of press observed throughout the Constitutionalist Period. Section One of this study goes into detail about the overall characteristics of the Resimli Kitap magazine, the team of writers at the helm of it, and its editorial/publishing policy. Section Two provides annotative information about the magazine that is categorized according to issue (i.e. of article, image, and/or photograph), subject, and writer. Section Three is comprised of selected articles that have been translated from Ottoman into Modern Turkish (Perso-Arabic into Latin script). Towards the end of the this study, one openly becomes aware of the fact that "Resimli Kitap" was a journal that continuously attempted to improve upon itself with each passing issue, that it heavily kept abreast with the political and literary tends of the day, and that played host many a major artist of that era. Furthermore, it is apparent that especially its visual significance/value has only increased as time goes by.
