Abstract (EN)
Recently, the use of electromagnetic waves in order to treat the cancer which is the ilness type causing the most death and the effects of wireless communication on people?s health requires wave-tissue analysis. In this thesis, an analysis has been made for the investigation of influence of electromagnetic waves on biological tissues which have different electrical and magnetical characteristics. To do this, firstly, specific power density, absorbed electromagnetic radiation dose and temperature rise are examined by using analytic solution. These are evaluated through distance the electromagnetic wave travels on the biological tissue in the ranges of microwave frequency and radiofrequency. Then, the rise of distance-temperature is identified depending on the increasing specific power density and increasing application times. In the next part of the thesis, a simulation model has been developed for hyperthermia by using Pennes bio-heat equation and FDTD method in the MATLAB. In this simulation, electrical fields, magnetic fields, specific absorption rate and heat energy that electromagnetic waves convey to the biological tissues distributions are investigated by utilizing pointed microwave source having 6.8 GHz frequency on the simple model of the biological tissues and the cross-section computed tomography of real human body. One dimensional electrical field distributions of signals are obtained from the wavelet analysis and the results are evaluated. Lastly, SAR distributions are analysed for various point source placements such as none-contacting, embedded to skin and embedded to fat configurations. The heat rise and SAR are observed on all tissues. The simulation enables the evaluation of the effects of electromagnetic waves on the biological tissues as a whole in the range of the radiofrequency and microwave frequency. KEYWORDS: Hyperthermia, electromagnetic wave, SAR, heat energy.
