Abstract (EN)

The aim is to identify the existing damages and defects of the historical wooden constructions in Rize region to ensure sustainability as well as the preservation of the subjective texture of the wood. For this purpose, the load-bearing behavior of the beams and columns of nine timber structures with a history of at least 150 years at three different study sites in the region was assessed using non-destructive testing methods determined as part of the study. In addition, samples taken from the timber structures were subjected to experimental tests in the laboratory environment and their chemical, physical and damaged mechanical resistance properties were tested. Destruction that may affect the visible resistance of the beams in historic buildings was assessed and biotic-related factors that degrade the wood were identified. The changes in the surface chemistry of the samples obtained from the facades of the buildings were determined by FTIR analyses. In line with the findings obtained from the study, it was determined that the C.I. and L.I. of the samples taken from the exterior surfaces of the historical buildings were low compared to the control sample. However, it was determined that there were changes in the surface chemistry of the samples taken from the south facade of the examined buildings and fragmentation / degradation of the main components. It was concluded that the results obtained by non-destructive methods are almost compatible with the destructive test results.
