Abstract (EN)
From the very first day, human beings have been in an effort to make sense of the universe, and this quest for meaning has led to the emergence of many concepts, one of which is astrology. Although its starting point was not Rome, it is known that today's astrology and the names of the planets came from this civilization. Rome's acquaintance with astrology occurred as a result of wars, while its spread among the elite was made possible through Stoicism. In the Early Imperial Period, Octavius was the first emperor to connect his legitimacy to the heavens, thus opening the way for astrology in politics. Emperors Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, and Nero preferred to use this method wherever they considered it necessary. This study aims to comprehend and discuss, through philological and archaeological data, the period between 200 BCE and 68 CE, Rome's process of encountering astrology, and whether astrology was used for the purpose of political propaganda in the Early Imperial Period.
