The sociological review of the situations of the Roman citizens otherness of their children in education: Çanakkale Atatürk district example

The study aims to investigate the marginalization and discrimination that make it difficult for the children of Roma families living in İsmetpaşa Mahallesi Atatürk Mevkii in Çanakkale province to receive education. The research population consists of Roma citizens living in İsmetpaşa Mahallesi Atatürk Mevkii in the city center of Çanakkale Province. The research sample consists of 20 participants from different households. Personal Information Form and Interview Questionnaire were used as data collection tools. First, the number of households was reduced to 20 and the sample was formed, then semi-structured interviews were conducted with one person from each household. The data obtained from the interviews were first transferred to electronic media and then the documents created were analyzed by applying content analysis method. As a result, as a result of the research built around three themes; it is thought that there is intense marginalization and discrimination between students, partial marginalization and discrimination between students and teachers in some cases, and very little marginalization and discrimination between students and school administration.
