Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to analyse the effects of sexual satisfaction of both genders and their perceived relationship quality on their emotional eating behaviours. The assessments were administered to a sample of 387 participants aged between 20-45 who are in a heterosexual romantic relationship. The participants' sexual satisfaction was measured by Golombok Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction Scale (female and male forms of the GRISS). The Perceived Romantic Relationship Quality Scale (PRRQS) was used to measure the participants' perception of the quality of their romantic relationships and the Emotional Eating Scale was used to assess the participants' emotional eating behaviours. Socio-Demographic information was gathered from a demographic questionnaire created by the researcher. The study is held based on six hypotheses. Firstly; it is assumed that sexual dissatisfaction would lead to an increase in the tendency and/or the behaviour of emotional eating. Secondly, as the perceived quality of romantic relationships decreases, the behaviour and/or the tendency of emotional eating is expected to increase. Taking into consideration that the females' tendencies of emotional eating and/or behaviours of emotional eating are higher than males', the third hypothesis suggests that there would be a meaningful statistical relation between emotional eating behaviours and/or the emotional eating tendencies of the participants in accordance with their genders. The fourth hypothesis suggests that there is a linear relationship between sexual satisfaction of both genders and their perceptions of the quality of their relationships. The fifth hypothesis is based on the assumption that there is a statistically significant difference between females' and males' emotional eating behaviours in terms of the type of their romantic relationships, meaning being in a relationship (dating) or being married. The sixth hypothesis suggests that the duration of a relationship affects the sexual satisfaction and the perceived quality of relationship among partners. This study not only aims to determine the factors affecting emotional eating behaviours of individuals but also aims to assert a relationship between emotional eating behaviour, sexual satisfaction and perceived quality of a relationship amongst both genders which has never been contextualized in an academic study. Hence, the correlation between these three variables were analysed and examined considering the literature reviews of each. The results of this study showed that there is a significant correlation between emotional eating behaviour, sexual satisfaction and perceived quality of a relationship of individuals. Besides, there is a significant correlation between sexual satisfaction and perceived quality of a relationship of men and women. It was concluded that as sexual satisfaction increases, perceived quality of a relationship increases. Also, an increase in at least one of the components of satisfaction, commitment, intimacy, trust, passion and love which are the components of perceived relationship quality increases sexual satisfaction. In addition, there is a significant correlation between frequency of sexual intercourse and avoidance of sexual intercourse and emotional eating behaviour of men who have a romantic relationship and it has been determined that there is a significant correlation between sexual life, sexual dysfunction and sexual satisfaction of women who have a romantic relationship and emotional eating behaviour. Based on the findings, recommendations for future studies were suggested.
