Abstract (EN)

Activities of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in Turkey began in 1992. Piano courses and diplomas ofRoyal Academy in the area of "avocation/hoby" have covered 11 cities of Turkey and each year,a significant number of people have been prepared for grades of this exam.Although these piano exams are considered as an effective assessment association throughout the country, it is not known which students have entered these exams for which purposes. Also, it is not known how ABRSM piano exams evaluated in the category of semi-professional music education have an impact on the choice of profession. Therefore, in this study, firstly the piano exam grades and diplomas are explained in detail. Afterwards, it was examined what the effects of this examination are on the choice of profession of piano students who entered the Royal Academy piano examinations. A questionnaire with 19 questions was sent to 33 piano students from Bursa City fort his research where screening and surveying methods from quantitative research methods used in. According to the results of the survey, although more than three years of playing piano with their own will, more than half of the students think that the Royal Academy piano exams are not a goal but a tool. It is realized that these students, who are at various grades of the piano exams, think of these exams as a tool in order to get their education abroad such as medical doctorship and engineering which are considered as "secured" professions by society and families. Besides, it is obtained that students who want to carry their music education to the professional dimension consider these exams as a tool to continue their education abroad as well.
