Abstract (EN)

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death with increasing frequency and highest mortality rate today. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are the main methods used in cancer treatment nowadays. Chemotherapy causes various side effects and impairs quality of life of cancer patients due to its high toxicity. Preventive studies for cancer have gained great importance. In addition to avoiding the factors thought to cause cancer, the use of various herbal supplements is also widely preferred in cancer prevention. Flavonoids are molecules found in the structure of plants with a large variety of different pharmacological effect potential. It is thought that flavonoids with especially antiproliferative and antioxidant properties can be effective in cancer treatment and cancer prevention. It is stated that these natural substances can prevent the proliferation and spread of cancerous cells. Rutin, vitexin and quercetin are flavonoids that are remarkable with their pharmacological activities and are known to be found in many medicinal plants. In several studies, these flavonoids have been reported to have anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antimicrobial, antineoplastic, antihypertensive and antioxidant effects. Within the scope of this project, we aim to evaluate the effects of rutin, quercetin, and vitex flavonoids on various cancer cells (breast, pancreas, lung, etc.) and compare their effects on these types of cancer.
