Georgian foreing policy under the Saakashvili

With the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, both the Cold War ended and many countries in Central Asia, the Balkans and Caucasia gained their independence. While building their nation states and institutions, these countries which gained their independence at the same time started to implement the values (democracy, human rights, liberty, transparency) in their countries they had been away from for years.These new states which came out after the Cold War have found inspiration in their own national identities and cultures while building their nation states. Georgia too, has resorted to build its nation state on Georgian Identity while establishing its own nation state and has tried to base its foreign policy priorities on this identity.The purpose of this study is to present which values are being referred to and what determines the foreign policy choices of Georgia, having gained independence after the Cold War, while forming the Georgian Foreign Policy during the Period of Mikheil Saakashvili, who came to power in 2003 with a revolution (the Rose Revolution).Keywords: Caucasus, Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, Foreign Policy, Cold War
