A comparison of the main characters of Sabahattin Ali's Kurk Mantolu Madonna and Max Frisch's Homo Faber in context of alienation to the society and to the self

This thesis aims to compare the main characters of Kürk Mantolu Madonna, written by Sabahattin Ali, who is one of the most important names in the modern Turkish Literature, and Homo Faber, written by Max Frisch, one of the most successful authors of modern Swiss literature, in the context of self and social alienation. Firstly, the writers' lives and literary personalities were analyzed. Secondly, the concept of alienation and its usage in the world of literature is explained. The main male and female protagonists of the novels are compared using the concept of self and social alienation. With the help of these two novels, which have common themes and were written during the same period, it is explained how two different literary traditions handle the self and social alienation. This comparative literary research confirms that these two writers, who came from two different cultures, grew up under different circumstances and lived in distant countries, show similarities in terms of their common themes. We hope to shed light on future studies by addressing the common novelist characteristics of the authors.
