Abstract (EN)
As an early Turkish republican literature era writer, Safiye Erol revealed the conflicts that women struggle in many subjects such as love, marriage, and motherhood, and reflected the pain of the woman's liberation process with her novels. This work; examine and study according to the existentialist feminist theory of Simone de Beauvoir who is the reference name of the era of feminism by the characters in Safiye Erol's novels, which allow women to determine what they live in their inner world, in their individual and social relations as women. For the study, in the Introduction part of the thesis, the reasons for bringing together Safiye Erol with Simone de Beauvoir were emphasized by briefly mentioning the comments about Safiye Erol's life, literary personality, and works. In the first part, the emergence of feminist theory and its development process are summarized historically. The second chapter is based on Simone de Beauvoir and her famous book, The Second Sex, which is still one of the most referenced books of feminists and feminist theory and the characteristics of the types of women she classified were emphasized. In the last chapter, by the theoretical framework drawn, the main female characters in the novels of Kadıköyü'nün Romanı, Ülker Fırtınası Ciğerdelen and Dineyri Papazı were examined in terms of the social environment and bilateral relations, and evaluated with the help of the concepts of second sex / Other. This study aims to reveal a different aspect of the author by approaching women in Safiye Erol's novels from the feminist point of view of Simone de Beauvoir and to contribute to the work of feminist theory on the Turkish novel and the visibility of Safiye Erol as a woman writer in the academy.
