Abstract (EN)

Vernacular architecture is the architecture built by the inhabitants of a region with local materials, techniques, and forms from their environment. The houses are mostly built by their owners. From the past to the present, humanity has produced structures in line with the vital needs of each period with its materials, technology, and construction. It is an architecture in which functional concerns and rational solutions predominate over aesthetics and luxury. It is compatible with the nature and climate of the region. It needs to be completed to evaluate the dwelling only with physical and material elements; it should also be considered according to the region's social, cultural, and traditional characteristics and people. Traditional architecture is formed by the people of the region building structures by considering traditions and customs. Traditions consist of parameters such as people's beliefs, history, and way of living. In traditional architecture, aesthetics is more important than function. While there are similarities in both architectures, there are also distinctive features that should not be confused. For this reason, in this study, the effects of vernacular architecture and traditional architecture within each other are explained through the example of Yörük Village. Yörük Village in the Safranbolu district of Karabük province was chosen as the study area. Safranbolu is considered one of the most important historical cities listed as a world heritage site to be protected by UNESCO. Like Safranbolu, registration studies have also been conducted in the surrounding villages. One of the most important of these villages is Yörük Village, where the entire village was declared an urban protected area and where there are many registered buildings. Yörük Village has a vital characteristic because it is a nomadic settlement and carries the Bektashi culture. This area was chosen as the study area because it is home to an ancient and rich history and culture. In addition, it is a village called a miniature city like Safranbolu. In this context, the area's historical, sociocultural structure and architectural features were analyzed based on articles, theses, books, and field studies about the Yörük Village. The area's research, analyses, and plans are brought together, and the vernacular and traditional architectural features of the village and their effects on each other are evaluated.
