Determining the level of awareness for the speech and language therapy profession of the faculty of health sciences students

Abstract (EN)

For this reason, knowing speech and language disorders and speech and language therapy profession, and in which situations or when to refer patients with suspected disorders to a speech and language therapist is a great step to best managing the rehabilitation process. This study was conducted with the students attending departments other than Language and Speech Therapy at Ankara University's and Hacettepe University's faculties of health sciences to determine awareness of the students about speech and language therapy profession. 164 people participated in the study. It was investigated whether the level of awareness of the students differed depending on the variables such as their department, education year and/or gender. According to the findings of the research, 137 people (83%) stated that they knew the speech and language therapy while choosing their profession. Sixty-eight percent of the participants expressed that they reached this information via Social networks/net. Eighty-four percent of the participants think that speech and language therapists work with all age groups. The most well-known of the case groups speech and language therapists works on is stuttering; the least known is Alzheimer. Thirty-three people (%20) think that they have adequate knowledge about speech and language therapy profession. As a result, the awareness of participants about speech and language therapy profession didn't differ depending on their department, education year and/or gender.
