Abstract (EN)
Aim: The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and trait anger among healthcare professionals working in a public-private hospital. Material and Method: This study, which is a quantitative research, was conducted at Giresun Gynecology and Children's Health and Diseases Training and Research Hospital between December 2022 and January 2023. The population of the research consists of 506 healthcare professionals working in the hospital where the research was conducted. In the research, an attempt was made to reach the entire universe. However, 319 people agreed to participate in this study on a voluntary basis in the hospital, which has 486 active employees. In the study, data were obtained using the 'Revised Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale' and the 'Trait Anger-Anger Style Scale' and questions including socio-demographic characteristics. SPSS-27 program was used to analyze the data. Research data are expressed in numbers (n), percentage distribution (%), averages (±standard deviation) and tables. In order to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and other sociodemographic variables and anger and expression styles, the research data were analyzed statistically using Independent Sample T Test and One-Way Analysis of Variance ANOVA (Post Hoc Tukey and Games Howell) tests, Correlation Analysis. and Regression Analyzes. Cronbach's alpha values of the scales were found to be above the internal consistency values (.70) accepted according to international standards. Results: A total of 319 healthcare professionals participated in the research. Of the 319 people participating in the study, 79% (n=252) were women and 21% (n=67) were men. According to the research results, a negative significant relationship was found between total emotional intelligence and trait anger of healthcare professionals (=-.230; p<0.05). It was determined that as emotional intelligence increased in the participants, trait anger decreased. It was concluded that emotional intelligence has an effect on trait anger. In addition, a statistically significant difference was found between gender, professional status, emotional intelligence scale and trait anger. Conclusions: It has been determined that individuals with high emotional intelligence levels have low trait anger levels. Since emotional intelligence can be developed, it is recommended that healthcare institutions develop their employees in this regard.
