Burnout level and related factors in healthcare professionals

The purpose of this study was to determine burnout level in healthcare professionals and relevant factors. The target population of the study comprised 400 healthcare professionals working in a training and research hospital. 220 available healthcare professionals who actively worked during the data collection period and agreed to take part in the study constituted the sample. In collection of the data the study used an information form created by the researchers in line with the literature and the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Form. The study analyzed the data acquired using the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) for Windows 25.0 program. In the normally distributed data the study used the independent samples t-test for the difference between two independent groups in comparing the quantitative data and the one-way analysis of variance in comparing more than two groups. In case a difference was found, the study used the Bonferroni to find the time causing the difference. The study found that the healthcare professionals' mean total burnout score was 45.95±8.13 and they had moderate burnout level. Also the mean burnout score was 13.91±5.00; the mean depersonalization score was 8.65±3.68; and the mean competence score was 23.38±3.54. The study determined that the married healthcare professionals had increased sense of personal success (competence) and had higher burnout than those who were single. The healthcare professionals with bachelor's degree whose economic condition was evaluated to be lower had higher depersonalization level. The study determined that the healthcare professionals working in the emergency unit had increased burnout and depersonalization scores. Also as the time of working in the profession and age of those who love their profession and unit increased, the sense of personal success (competence) increased.
