Mobile health in healthcare communication, case study: "Adımasayar" application

The most important aim of the healthcare practitioners is to obtain the individual's physical, mental, intellectual and social well-being. This aim can only take place if individual manages his/her own disease and/or does the right attitude for protecting his/her own health. Healthcare Services Communication, if used with the right communication strategies and with the help of digital communication tools, can give customized applications without limits of time and place simultanoesly and it also can give support to individual to implement health attitude. Today, mobile healthcare applications have been used to manage infectious diseases in 3rd World countries through mobile phones. However in developed countries, the healthcare applications downloaded to smart phones and mobile phones, used to manage chronic diseases and to gain an attitude to protect the healthcare. Fogg (2002) claims that; by being amusing, guiding, interactivty provider, facilitator, portable and with the feature that can serve 7/24, mobile technologies will be in the extent of " convincing computer technologies" Captology in the near future. These technologies, when used with the right design and the right communication strategies, can be effective especially in creating behavior change and sustainable behavior. The main purpose of this thesis is to search how these applications will reinforce the targeted behaviour to maintain them in a more effective way (in a more convincing way). In this thesis, with the aim of giving the individual more active life, the Pedometer application downloaded to smart phones and the motivating effects to continue on using that applicaiton have been analyzed in accordance with the designated hypothesis.
