Green organizational behaviors and associated factors among employees in healthcare institutions

The present study research aimed to determine the green organizational behaviors of employees in healthcare institutions and to investigate the associated factors. This cross-sectional study was conducted with a total of 461 people working in public healthcare institutions in Kırklareli Central District between May and August 2023. The data were collected face to face by using the Personal Data Form and the Green Organizational Behavior Scale (GOBS). A total of 63.3% of the participants were women and the average age was 35.44±9.91 (Min: 20, Max: 69). The total average score of the employees on GOBS was found to be 109.04±16.96 (Min: 44, Max: 135). According to multivariate linear regression analyses, it was found that the GOBS total score increased as the years of service increased (p = 0.000). Working continuously during the day (p=0.000), being satisfied with the job (p=0.049), being interested in environmental/ nature-related issues (p=0.000), having sufficient/moderate level of knowledge on the environment (p=0.012), protecting the environment, time for volunteering (p=0.000), being happy with environmentally friendly behaviors (p=0.010), and having adequate/moderate levels of environmentally friendly behaviors of colleagues (p=0.007) were associated with an increased total score of GOBS. No statistically significant associated were detected between the importance of the future of the institution and voluntary spending of money to protect the environment and the total score of GOBS (p>0.05). In conclusion, corporate policies and practices must be organized to develop green organizational behaviors of employees in healthcare institutions, and initiatives to increase employee awareness must be rapidly activated.
