Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to compare the immediate effects of kinesio taping and rigid taping applied on triceps surae muscle vertical jump and dynamic balance to among healthy subjects. In the first stage of the study we started with two hundred fifteen students (N:215; F/M:165/50) was from Yeditepe University Health Sciences Faculty were investigated the subjects of physical characteristics, sociodemographic profiles, general health status, health behaviours. To examine the status of physical activity of the subjects, International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) short form was used. According to questionnaire surveys and exclusion criteria, one hundred forthy six subjects were (N:146; F/M:109/37) excluded from the study. In the second stage, the subjects who don't want to continue (n=26) and having in acute injury (n=3), a totally of 29 individuals were excluded from the study. In the third stage, the rest of subjects were randomized in two groups; as 'Group I' (n:20; F/M:13/7) and 'Group II' (n:20; F/M:14/6). Measurements of flexibility for lower extremity and subcutaneous fat thickness were made to all subjects. Subjects from Group I assessed with vertical jump test (MP: mean anaerobic power, AP: average anaerobic power) and Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT) for 3 direction, on first day without taping on leg (U1), on second day after applying shame tape (U2) to triceps surae muscle and third day after applying kinesio taping (U3) through muscle facilitation technics. In the subjects of Group II, 3 tapes practices, on first day U1, on second day after applying rigid tape (U4) to triceps surae and third day after applying U3 were also applied, respectively. All the participants from Group II also performed MP, AP and SEBT prior U1, during U4 and after applying U3. In the Group I, the mean value AP and PP, SEBT showed a significant differences between U2 and U3 application (p≤0.05). The outcomes for U2 applications were significantly increased in Group I. Futhermore, to compare with different tapes after rigid and kinesio tape the results showed the significance increasing for AP and PP, SEBT in Group II after applied rigid tape (U4) (p≤0.05). To achieve the immediate increasing in vertical jumping and dynamic balance, we can conclude that rigid tape applications seems to be more effective comparing the kinesio taping.
