Abstract (EN)

It is evident that the views and exegeses of the early scholars have greatly contributed to the field of tafsīr (Quranic exegesis). One of these scholars is Saîd b. Jubayr (d. 94/713), a prominent figure among the Tābi'īn (the generation following the Companions). In this study, the life of Saîd b. Jubayr, his contributions to Islamic sciences, and his interpretation of legal verses (ahkām) have been researched, and his place in the science of tafsir has been determined. The study evaluates both Saîd b. Jubayr's own opinions and the narrations he transmitted from his teacher Abdullah b. Abbas (d. 68/687), as well as the views and narrations of other Tābi'īn exegetes. Saîd b. Jubayr was one of the rare Tābi'īn scholars who recorded knowledge in writing during the early period. He is also attributed with a tafsir work known as "Mushaf of Saîd b. Jubayr." One of the factors that made him special in scholarly matters is that he benefited from both the Hijaz and Iraq centers of knowledge. Until his twenties, he stayed in Mecca, benefiting from Ibn Abbas, and later continued part of his life in Kufa, where he benefited from the students of Abdullah b. Mas'ud (d. 32/652-53). Another notable figure among his teachers is Abdullah b. Umar (d. 73/693) from Medina. Saîd b. Jubayr, who embodied the understanding of all three knowledge centers, has numerous narrations concerning the legal verses. Interpreting the verses using methods consistent with the exegesis tradition of his time, Saîd b. Jubayr's contributions to the science of tafsir have provided great methodology and examples for those who followed him. One of the reasons for limiting our study to Saîd b. Jubayr's interpretation of legal verses is to express his proficiency in the field of jurisprudence. Our study consists of two sections following the introduction. The first section covers Saîd b. Jubayr's life, scholarly personality, teachers-students, general characteristics of Tābi'īn tafsir, the scientific, political, cultural, and social situation of his time, his contributions to Islamic sciences, his place in the science of tafsīr, the tafsīr work attributed to him, and the sources of his exegesis. The second section deals with the definition, classification of legal verses, and touches on the early tradition of juristic exegesis, followed by an examination of Saîd b. Jubayr's narrations concerning legal verses under the headings of worship (ibādat), transactions (mu'āmalat), and punishments (uqubat). The extent to which legal verses are included in his narrations and his views on related issues are presented.
