"The Endless Journey oh the Hero" in Sait Faik Abasıyanık's narratives with island and sea content

Sait Faik Abasıyanık is an important artist who has gained a place in Turkish Literature with his unique style. Although he showd his productivity in the story genre, he managed to make a name for himself in our literature with the novels and poems he wrote. Especially with the stories he wrote, he drew a new path for the writwrs who came after him. Sait Faik Abasıyanık has covered almost every subject and theme in his works. However, the theme he woeks most intensely on is the island and the sea. Many of his stories are based on these teo tehemes. The island is the place where the events in the narratives actually develop. Hıwever, it offers the characters a refuge from the chaos and noise they are in. The island serves as both escape and rehabilitation for them. In this respect, a similarity has been established between the island and the image of the belly of the whale in Joseph Campbell's adventure in which he examines the monomythical adventure of the mythological hero. The sea, another intense theme in Sait Faik's works, takes place as an expression of his desire for eternity. In this respect, it cannot be considered independently of the island and the sea and has been represented as the most successful name of these two themes in Turkish Literature. The work prepared is based on the systematics of Joseph Campbell, which he defined as the Hero's Endless Journey. In the first part of the study, which consists of four main sections, theoretical information about Joseph Campbell's theory is given, and in the second part, the narratives including the island and the sea are summarized according to this theory. In the third part of study, the narratives in which the island took place ere identified and the effect it had on the characters in line eith the image of the whale's bellt was examined.
