Revi̇ew of natural weight loss products in pharmacies of Sakarya region

Considering the clinical studies conducted in recent years, the rate of obesity and overweight (having more weight than body mass index) is increasing rapidly all over the world. In recent studies conducted in our country, it has been observed that obesity has become a common problem, especially in young age, in parallel with world data. In order to accelerate weight loss or to regulate weight, pharmacognosic approaches have been widely used as an alternative to synthetic drugs all over the world. Medicinal use of plants is possible with ethnobotanical and ethnopharmacological approaches that test their therapeutic use in the treatment and prevention of many diseases, and as a result, many weight loss aids have gained a place in the market. In this study, a detailed literature study was carried out on the content of herbal supplements that help lose weight in Sakarya province pharmacies and the plants that help to lose weight globally. In addition, a survey study was conducted with the pharmacies of Sakarya province, and valuable information was obtained about the transportation channels of the products, their variability and the characteristics of the clients. In order to increase the reliability of these products, more clinical and drug interaction studies are needed on the plants that are in the products and examined in the market. In addition, since these nutritional supplements or support products on the market for weight loss are products that can be sold outside of the pharmacy and are advertised in many places, frequent inspections and controls are required.
