Current situation of Kilim weaving in Sakarya Province-Kaynarca District

From our traditional Turkish handicrafts, the dirt-bearing weavings were carried by the nomadic tribes from Central Asia to Anatolia. In the past, from the bed cover to the cradle, from the salt bag to the floor spread rug weaving technique produced products, almost in our country is facing the danger of extinction in every region. One of the places where kilim production is made in the historical process is the Kaynarca district of Sakarya province. The people who started the art of kilim weaving in Kaynarca district are also known as sanat Manav im. Unfortunately, the production of Kaynarca rugs is finished. It is very difficult to find rugs even in the villages where rugs are produced. The rugs woven in the district are usually woven to be used as a floor spread. Weavings were also produced to be put into the dowry of young people who have come to the age of marriage. In the field research, 15 different rugs were named according to the pattern characteristics of the rugs woven in the region. These; carpet-rug, kandilli rug, barred, garbage rug, green, plow, naktarlı, rugs, cubic rugs, wood, halfworld, embroidery, roses, fingered. The patterns used in these rugs are based on herbal and geometric foundations. There are very few who can give information about where the motifs are inspired and what their meaning is. The technique used in kiln samples woven in Kaynarca district; marbled rug technique. Flax and wool rope are used as weft and warp yarn in weaving. The width of the rugs is 106cm. with a maximum of 256cm. between. Their length; minimum between 261cm and maximum 363cm. In the floor and border motifs used in the rugs woven in the region, names such as centipedes, wings, fit, naktar, plow, fingered, road, big tree, flower, fivefinger, bottle, green, rose, cubed were used. In Kaynarca district of Sakarya province, the technique and pattern characteristics of the rugs that can come without any deterioration based on the history of kilim weaving have been analyzed.
