Abstract (EN)

Schiff bases have been widely used to their biological and structural features and have been increasing in importance. Schiff bases form an important class of organic compounds that are used in, in medicine and pharmacology, biological systems, engineering, dye synthesis and in so many fields of study of application. Micellar liquid crystals draw, a lot of attention to various areas from cosmetics to chemical industry and pharmacological drug delivery systems. In this study, 2-hydroxy-5-methylbenzaldehyde; (E)-2-hydrazineylidene-1,2-diphenylethan-1-one, (4-methoxyphenyl)methanamine, o-toluidine, 4-bromoaniline, 3-fluoroaniline were reacted to form Schiff bases accordingly. The structure of Schiff bases were illuminated with spectroscopic techniques FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared), UV-Vis (Ultraviole-visible); 1H-NMR ve 13C-NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) The crystallographic and molecular structures of single crystals of compounds that were prepared in suitable solvents were identified with X-ray diffraction systems. In the second part of the study, micellar cholesteric disc phases were obtained by inducing anionic amphiphilic molecule (surfactant) which is sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDeS), sodium sulfate (Na2SO4), water (H2O), alkanol (hexanol, octanol, decanol) and alkanol system prepared in nematic phase SDeS/Na2SO4/Alkanol/H2O, by optically active R-(-)-Mandelic acid (MA) molecule use. The solution of synthesized compounds that were prepared in ethyl alcohol synthesized compounds in 1x10-2 M-1x10-5 M concentration range, were added into liquid crystal medium, and placement was determined by POM (Polarized optic microscope). The conditions of synthesized compounds prepared in nematic disc, cholesteric disc and isotropic phases investigated by UV-Vis spectroscopy at 25 oC and 37 oC.
