Research of the reasons why people who play tennis in Samsun choose that sport

The purpose of this study is to reveal the reasons why people who play tennis choose that sport in Samsun.At this study, a questionaire is applied 182 people who play tenis between 2008-2009 years at Anakent Social Facilities?, Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports Facilities? and 19 Mayıs University?s tennis courts in Samsun.In the statistical analysis of data SPSS 15 is used. Frequency, percentage and arithmetic average distrubition are calculated by utilizing the statistics of the study. Cross tabulation and Chi-Square test which is in difference detection is used.At the end of this study, among the reasons why people tend to sport of tenis, encouragement of the family, effects of mass media, effects of friends, sporting events and people?s interest to tennis at the neighbourhood, need to act and health can be considered. In addition, it is found out that incomes of the people who play the sport of tenis are middle and upper level. Expectations from tennis are having a good physical appearance, avoiding from stress, feeling relieved, leisure time activities, playing game, enjoying, improving performance, for students making new friends and gaining status.It is concluded that besides enough facility, trainer, taking part in the pres and puplication organs much more, improving parents? interest to that sport and improving their incomes will be effective for directing to the sport of tennis.Key words: Tennis, Sport, orientation, expectation
