Analysis of political, economic and social transformations in the process of Samsun becoming a metropolitan municipality (1990-2000)

In this thesis, the transformations and developments in the city of Samsun province gaining the metropolitan municipality status and the news reflected in the Samsun local press in this process are discussed. While the studies were being carried out, the parliamentary reports in the archive of Samsun metropolitan municipality, TUIK data, and the information obtained from the Samsun local press in the National Library were evaluated. In addition, copyright and research works related to our subject were also used. Our study consists of introduction, three chapters and conclusion. In the introduction part of our thesis, a general evaluation has been made and in the first part, information about the history of Samsun and the administrative situation of Samsun from past to present is given. In the second part, the years 1990-2000 as the period when Samsun became a metropolitan municipality were discussed and the political, economic and social transformations and developments in the city before and after it became a metropolitan municipality were examined. In the third chapter, the news reflected in the local press during the period when Samsun gained the metropolitan municipality status were examined and examples of these news were presented.
