The role of art in expressing the artist identity and personal artwork

This thesis focused on self, identity, and art. It argues that identity evolves over time to form an individual's self, and that identities marginalized by societal codes find expression and action through art. Art exposes the existence of marginalized groups and individuals to society. It defines concepts such as identity, self, societal roles, art, and forms of artistic expression, examining their development in art history. The thesis analyzes and exemplifies artists and artworks from minority groups marginalized by society. In this thesis, how the artist constructs identity and self through art and how this self is revealed to society is examined. In this context, the first chapter of the thesis explores the definitions of concepts such as identity, the sociology of art, and expressionism theory; the second chapter explains how identity has been historically questioned and processed in the history of art. In the third chapter, examples of artworks produced by the artist based on their own identity are presented. In the fourth and final chapter, the researcher includes his own works, demonstrating how he express his self through art by using the transparency, permeability, and fragility of glass material.
