Abstract (EN)
The tulip, an important ornamental element in Turkish Islamic art, has been used throughout the centuries in many different forms and functions such as tiles, stones, lighting and fabric. In fact, the tulip was so beloved in the Ottoman Empire that it became an indispensable part of urban culture. The Tulip Age is one of the best examples of this. This importance was underlined by the cultivation of various tulips both in the Tulip Age and in the Republic. In this master thesis, iron doors with simple tulip motifs in the second half of the XX. century that adorn the walls of masonry concrete houses built far from architectural dimensions and aesthetics in Istanbul like a painting were photographed and recorded. The master thesis consists of three parts. The first part discusses the definition and historical process of the tulip, the second part discusses the theme of the tulip in art and the third part tulip motif doors from the palace to the building.
