Abstract (EN)

This study was planned to contribute to the enlightenment of the antioxidant capacity of natural products. The antioxidant activities of lyophilized water and alcohol extracts of the fruits of Terminalia citrina roxb. ex. fleming belonging to the Combretaceae family were evaluated. 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl free radical (DPPH.) scavenging activity, 2,2´-azino-bis (3ethylbenzthioazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical (ABTS∙+) removal to investigate the antioxidant activities of Terminalia citrina roxb. ex. fleming activity, reduction capacity of cupric ions (Cu+2) by CUPRAC method, Fe+3 reduction capacity according to FRAP method, Fe+3-Fe+2 reduction capacity with potassium ferricyanate reduction method, N, N-dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine radical (DMPD∙+) removal activity, bipyridyl metal chelating activity, total phenolic compound assay, total flavonoid determination, total antioxidant activity methods according to the ferric thiocyanate method were used. BHA, BHT, α-tocopherol and trolox were used as reference antioxidants. The methods used in this study, it was determined that the lyophilized water and alcohol extracts of Terminalia citrina roxb. ex. fleming generally showed a good antioxidant activity. In radical scavenging activities, it showed values close to the standard antioxidant trolox antioxidant, but it gave better results than the trolox standard in the ABTS.+ method. When looking at the reduction capacity methods, it has been observed that it behaves like the BHA standard and has a better reduction capacity than other standards. In addition, when the chelating activity was evaluated, it was determined that it was higher than the α-tocopherol and trolox standards. The percentage of inhibition of lipid peroxidation of water and alcohol extracts of Terminalia citrina roxb. ex. fleming was 89.93-93.76 respectively. In addition, the phenolic content of the lyophilized water and ethyl alcohol extracts of Terminalia citrina roxb. ex. fleming was determined using LC-HRMS (Liquid Chromatography High Resolution Mass Spectrometer) device. The amount of syringic acid in the water extract of the Terminalia citrina roxb. ex. fleming and ellagic acid in the alcohol extract were found to be higher than the other acids. It was determined that the Terminalia citrina roxb. ex. fleming is a fruit with antioxidant capacity.
