Abstract (EN)

21 patients (11 men-10 women) diagnosed as sarcoma between the dates December 2004 and March 2009 were studied. The clinical and pathological data of these patients were written down retrospectively. Survivin expression was examined from preparations diagnosed as sarcoma with immünhistokimyasal method by an expert patholog.Looking at the examples in literature, survivin expression proportions were evaluated by classifying in twogroups as below %5 nagative and above %5 positive (120, 121). In our study survivin expression of patients was evaluated in both sytoplasmic and nuclear aspects. Since the highest survivin expression in our patients %20 in nuclear evaluation and %95 in cytoplasmic evaluation all showing an expression proportion above %5 were included in positive group. In positive sytoplasmic survivin average observation period was 28.4 months (between: 1-67) while in negative survivins average observation period was 34.8 months (between: 4-53). In positive nuclear survivin average observation period was 30.2 months (between: 1-67) while in negative survivins average observation period was 29.4 months (between: 3-53). No expressive differences were found between survivin positive and negative groups for disease free survival of patients evaluated in both cytoplasmic and nuclear survivin expression aspects (cytoplasmic p=0.701; nuclear p=0.704). Smilarly no expressive differences were found between survivin positive and negative groups for overall survival of patients evaluated in both cytoplasmic and nuclear survivin expression aspects (cytoplasmic p=0.999 nuclear p=0.332).It was determined that the patients in survivin positive groups showed much better disease free survival and overall survival than the patients in negative groups since enough observation period for patient wasn?t enough the relationship between sarcoma and survivin expression may be explained more expressively with a study including more patient numbers and much observation period.
