Purchasing management database system and an application

In this thesis, Purchasing and Supply Management and its applications were studied. The theoretical development of the concept and examples in business enterprises were explained.In the first section of the thesis study, Purchasing Management, Supply Management, its importance to the companies and its usage as a main tool to reduce enterprise costs were explained.In the second section, the relations of Purchasing Management with the planning concepts like Material Requirements Planning, Capacity Requirements Planning, Manufacturing Resource Planning and Enterprise Resource Planning were studied. The place and function of Purchasing Management as a networked working function was explained.After these theoretical sections an example company in air transport industry was selected and Purchasing and Supply Management processes currently existing in company was evaluated. After the analysis, a Database Management System model and version was selected for the application. The development of the application and its short explanation, the effects on the overall processes were evaluated.
