SAVING WATER IN HOT WATER SYSTEM Kazım DEĞİRMENCİ Advanced Technologies, Master of Science Thesis, 2018 Thesis Supervisor: Assoc.Prof. Rüştü GÜNTÜRKÜN SUMMARY While the reduction in clean and usable water resources because of global warming and drought is threating the World, taking some precautions about protecting available resources and planning its usage become compulsory. The hot water which is used for general and personal hygiene in homes and workplaces ready to use after a certain period of its wastage due to long distance between usage area of water and its source. It is an inevitable fact that the serious wasting of usable water affect us negatively in a national and global extend. In this study, the system is designed and implemented with the aim of saving the cool water which is wasted until the hot water becomes an available for using when the tap is turned on. So, in the project, an electronic control circuit with a programmed ATmega328 micro-controller, two 220V water solenoid valves-one of is in on and the other valve is in off position normally- a digital pressure sensor, a digital fluid flow sensor and a digital temperature sensor are used to achieve this purpose. The average distance between source of hot water and its usage point was accepted as 5 meters. We are assuming that the water being wasted 4 times a day; hence, 5,72 liters per day, 171,6 liters per month, as a result 2059 liters of potable water a year are wasted despite paying the fee. The water-saving system is activating by checking the current temperature of water depending on the value set by the microcontroller.IDE programming language are predicate on the process of programming microcontroller. The temperature of water, the pressure of municipal water and movement of water are checked by sensors which are in the system. As a result of this study, substantial amount of water-saving was provided by recovering the cool water which is wasted until the hot water becomes an available for usage thanks to controlling of microcontroller.
