Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACTIn this study we aimed to investigate the protective effect of resveratrol ongentamicin induced nephrotoxicity. Furthermore we compared this effect with protectiveeffect of vitamin- E.Experiments were carried out in male Wistar rats weighing 200-250 g. Animalwere divided into 8 groups: Control, vehicle, resveratrol control (10 mg/kg), vitamin- Econtrol and gentamicin (80mg/kg), gentamicin+DMSO, gentamicin+resveratrol, gentamicin+ vitamin- E. Urine and blood samples were collected the sixth day after startingtreatment. Then all rats sacrificed with ketalar (30mg/kg). K idneys were collected forhistopathological studies and were fixed with 10% buffered formalin. Tissue sampleswere stored -700 C in liquid nitrogen for the determination of GSH, GST, MDA andcatalase. GSH was determined by using Grunert and Philips method, Beutle method wasused for the determination of GST. Catalase and MDA was determined according toLowry method.Blood urea level was significantly increased in gentamicin treated group. Urea andcreatinin levels were reduced statistically significant in resvetarol and vitamin- Eadministered groups when compared with gentamicin group . We did not determine anysignificant changes when compared resveratrol and vitamin- E. It has been determinedthat resveratrol caused statistically significant decrease in lipid peroxidation and reducedlevel of catalase The similar results were obtained with vitamin- E.Histopathological examination showed that Resveratrol and vitamin- E preventedpartly gentamicin induced tubular damage. Our results demonstrated that Resveratrol and vitamin- E have a protective effectagainst to gentamicin induced nephrotoxicity, lipid peroxidation and cellular damage. Wedid not observe any significant difference between Resveratrol and vitamin- E.i
