Abstract (EN)
The aim of this research is to examine the concept of happiness in Schopenhauer's philosophy. The concept of happiness stands out as one of the most fundamental issues that philosophers see it as the purpose of life. As a matter of fact, many thinkers have examined the ways in which people can maintain a happier life. Because being happy connects you to life and lifespan, at some point it also stands out as the purpose of life. In the thinking of Schopenhauer, pessimism dominates the handling of existence and the point of view of life. Because according to him, it should be accepted that the principle 'man came into the world to be happy' is wrong from the beginning. In this context, the world is not a good place, but rather a bad place. Pain and misery stand out as the basic principle at the core of the world. Because in the human being the will reciprocates as a request. Human being always want selfishly, becomes a slave what he wants. It is completely impossible to meet these insatiable requests. However, when every request is applied selfishly, it is inevitable that other people will be harmed. In this case, in the Schopenhauer philosophy, firstly, for happiness empathy is necessary with other people. With this empathy, one must be merciful to other people. In Schopenhauer's thought, as a result of the human being's attempt to prevent the urge to want, in absolute terms it is impossible to escape the pain which is at the core of the world. According to him keeping calm, being peaceful and helping others are necessary to be happy. Happiness is not possible in an absolute sense, but one should still avoid pain. Happiness is only fleeting moments. Capturing these moments and helping other people stand out as an extremely important principle for happiness. The concept of happiness, which is an important problem in the history of thought, has been analyzed in the philosophy of Schopenhauer and this concept is loaded with a negative meaning. The reason why he evaluates the concept of happiness negatively is its effect on what man does.
