Abstract (EN)
In this dissertation study, Arduino-based fuzzy logic based control is carried out on an off grid hybrid power generation system against various loads. The system was installed in the garden of Kastamonu University, Cide Rıfat Ilgaz Vocational School of High Education. 300 W wind turbine and 3 x 80 W of solar panels were used in the system. Additionally, A 12 V 130 Ah battery was used, engaging in order to ensure the continuity of the system and storing the power not needed by the user, where the power generation system is not capable. 12 V 25 W lamps were used in the system as the loads. The aim is to control the power generated by wind turbines and photovoltaic panels, as well as examining their efficiency. For comparing the efficiency of the control system designed, the system is operated both as a hybrid power generation system, and as an Arduino-based fuzzy logic controller. Within a nine-month-period, the power, generated by the system, is recorded, thus setting forth the advantages and disadvantages of both systems. Thanks to the rule tables used in the fuzzy logic controller, the generation parameters of the system can be changed effortlessly. The energy, received by the system was continuously monitored and recorded via Displays within the model as drawn up with Matlab Simulink. For ensuring the transmission of system inputs to the computer and the output of fuzzy logic, Arduino Mega and current-voltage sensors were used. After the fuzzy logic makes a decision as per the received current voltage parameters, Arduino pins were activated, thus ensuring the control of the system with the relay board. With this system, it is ensured that the renewable energy resources are prioritized for meeting the power needs of users, and where the system is not capable of doing so, the battery and the network are engaged. It was observed that the Arduino-based fuzzy logic controller was feeding the generated power without charging the battery, thus inferring that the economical life-cycle of the batteries are preserved. The battery, which was used for the fuzzy logic control system, was avoided to be filled and drawn for 140 times within a period of 9 months, which enhanced the life cycle of the battery for 4%. Where the power generation system cannot generate power with fuzzy logic control system, the network has the capacity to be engaged, but this cannot be performed for the classical system. Therefore, the continuity of the classical system was found to be less efficient than the system which is controlled with Arduino-based fuzzy logic control system. It is particularly of importance to use the fuzzy logic rule tables in real time within the system. As a method of artificial intelligence, activity and functionality of the fuzzy logic make energy generation systems more active and functional. In the first chapter of the study, the importance of energy is mentioned; following a brief information on the objective and scope of the dissertation, previous studies on hybrid power systems are summarized. In the second chapter, general information on solar and wind energy can be found, in which the renewable energy resource status is analyzed both for Turkey and globally. The third chapter concentrates upon the specifications and functions of hybrid power generation system components. Here, you will find the drawings and figures concerning the system. In the fourth chapter, you will see the findings and the parameters effecting these findings. The fifth and final chapter comprises the obtained results, which are examined in the same.
