Abstract (EN)

The people who lose their lives traumatically as the result of terrorism and war are considered as martyrs. In this survey, the situation of 51 martyrs' fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, wives and children residing in Tarsus-Mersin was examined after they experienced this kind of trauma. The aim of this survey is to determine the martyrs' families' mourning, emotional, social deterioration, PTSD level and the relation with their demographic features. The other objective of this research is to be taken as a sample for more detailed researches. The importance of this study lies in the passion to show the trauma empirically that the martry's family have experienced. This research, which is in a quantative structure, has the martyrs' relatives in Mersin as its nature. The sampling consists of 97 martyrs' relatives who reside in Tarsus and its villages. The data has been collected with "Mourning Scale","Emotion Level and Social Deterioration Scale" and " Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Form". Parametric(t-test, one way anova, correlation) non-parametric tests have been used in the analysis of the data. According to the findings obtained; the mourning, emotion level and social deterioration with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder level of the martyrs' families differ depending on the gender, getting social support or not and taking antidepressants or not. The mourning, emotion level and PTSD level of women is much higher than of men. If it is compared with the related literature, the traumatic mourning level that martrys' families experience is higher than the usual loss average. There have been no meaningful relation found out between the mourning, emotion, social disorder, PTSD level and age, education, financial and period of mourning. There has been a meaningful relation only between PTSD level and age. It has been identified that the most influential thing for the mourning, emotion level, social disorder and PTSD level of the martyrs' families are war and terror incidents that appear in the media. Also, there has been a relation between income levels and mourning period, social disorder and education levels.
