Abstract (EN)
While Sultan Abdulhamid II and his understanding of politics caused the emergence of those who opposed him in the center and in the periphery, on the other hand, ensured that they were organized politicians, journalists and literary figures who aimed to create "the positive perception and image of the sultan" in Ottoman society. In this context, as it is important to analyze the life and literary works of the bureaucrat, journalist and poet Salawi Efendi (1856-1909), who closely followed the sultan and his policies, as one of the last examples of Ottoman Arabic literature, it is quite remarkable in terms of illuminating the literature-politics relationship in the last period of the Ottoman Empire, as an Arab poet, his support for the Sultan's politics and the examination of his religious-political approach, his literary accumulation. The years between 1876-1909, which is the period of Abdulhamid II, constitute the temporal framework of our study. Abu al-Nasr Yahyâ ibn Abdu'l-Ganî b. Ahmad es-Salawi, who is originally from Sudan, consists of his most important poems in Arabic, his eulogies to Abdulhamid II. Salawi Efendi wrote his works in Arabic, the most important of poems consist of his eulogies to Sultan Abdülhamid II. He collected these poems in his books entitled (diwan) Hilyetü'l-Asri'l-Cedîd fî Şemâili'l-Meliki'l-Hamîd, Bülûgu'l-Emânî fî'l-Medîhi's-Sultanî, el-İhtiyâriyyât, Dîvânü'l-Kasâidü'l-Hamîd and and in this anonymous poetry divan (Selâvî Efendi's located in the Millet Library, Ali Emiri Collection, nr. 3057 and written by Salawi Efendi himself) which we discussed in our study. It is a fact that the religious, political, and other events that took place during the poet's lifetime affected literature, especially poetry. Our study aims to reveal the image of the sultan which is the desired image to be perceived by the public eye, from religious, political and social aspects, in the poems written for the purpose of protecting Islam, the caliphate, the Ottoman sultan and the unity of the Ummah in the context of the aforementioned divan. In this thesis, we will analyze Salâwi Efendi's concept of sultan in the context of the diwan from religious, political, and social aspects.
