Seljuk capital Merv (From foundation to 1157)

Merv, which was the capital city of the Great Seljuk Empire, was one of the four important administrative centers of the medieval Horasan region. The fact that it was established in a fertile delta but also on the historical silk road made it a favorite city throughout history. Merv which was conquered in the time of Omar became the center of caliphate especially during the period of Abbâsî Caliph al-Memun. It become a science and culture center in this period. After the Dandanakan War, the city which was under the control of the Seljuks remained in the administration of Cagri Bey. During the reign of Sultan Sencer, Merv city became the capital of the Great Seljuk Empire. The city's zoning activities were given importance and the welfare level of the people was tried to be raised during the Seljuk period. Merv, as a center of science and culture, was especially famous with its libraries. In my master thesis, Seljuk Capital Merv (from foundation to 1157) I tried to study history of Merv with social, administrative, social, architectural, economical and cultural aspects.
