Abstract (EN)

In this study, the first name that comes to mind when it comes to Physical Education in Turkey, Selim Sırrı Tarcan's book "Sportsman" was translated from Ottoman to modern Turkish. Witnessing the last years of the Ottoman Empire and the first years of the Republic, Selim Sırrı Tarcan achieved many firsts in Physical Education during his lifetime. He became a pioneer in the spread of Physical Education and sports in the country with his ideas and the education he received. Selim Sırrı Tarcan's book "Sports" was written in old letters. The book was published in Istanbul in 1330 by Artin Asaduryan and Mahdûmları Printing House. The book, consisting of 135 pages, is divided into 16 sections. These sections are Amateurism, What is Sports? It consists of titles such as The Value of the Game, Human Strength, Walking, Fencing, Jiu Citsu (Jiu-jitsu), Old and New Olympics, Pedestrian Races, Boxing, Swimming, Tug of War, Boy Squad, Jumping, Shidor, Tennis. The aim of this study is to translate an important work in the field of sports into modern Turkish and make it understandable by everyone. In addition, to provide the scientific world with another resource that those doing research on sports can refer to. Keywords: Sports, History of Sports, Physical Education, Selim Sırrı Tarcan.
