Abstract (EN)

Film art can be put into practice through different formal approaches, different narrative styles, or a perspective that rejects narrative. Cinematography is one of the significant points that films can be differentiated from each other which are based on different intellectual and aesthetic approaches. Cinematography expresses the process that moving images are recorded to film stock. It manages, recording images through the exposure of film stock and bringing camera, lens, light, frame, and other tools together which are used in designing recorded images. Cinematography has designed and recorded images as a representation tool in mainstream cinema since the beginning of classical narrative style and started to contribute image to find a direct existence space by taking the advantage of developments in film philosophy and film technology during the mid 20th century. In the modern narrative style that cinematographers partly contribute to directors' intellectual and aesthetic journey, cinematography became a prominent factor when image was getting autonomy and connecting undivided time. Semih Kaplanoğlu presents this kind of understanding in cinema that Deleuze describes by the time-image concept. This project identifies the place of cinematography in the establishment of the intellectual and spiritual structure of Kaplanoğlu films by analyzing how cinematographic practices participate in narrative structure, production of meaning, and form.
