Abstract (EN)
Results of congenital heart disease screening using pulse oximeter in newborn without symptoms AİM: Pulse oximetry screening test is used to diagnose of congenital heart diseases (CHD), which is seen in 8-10 babies per 10,000 live births. MATERİALS AND METHODS: Newborn babies with a gestational age of more than 34 weeks who were followed up with their mothers in Sakarya University Training and Research Hospital Gynecology Clinic between September 2020 and December 2023 were included the study. Oxygen saturation of the babies included in the study was performed with a pulse oximetry device (Masimo Radical-7®) 24th hour after birth. The screening was performed in accordance with the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Critical congenital heart disease were detected by echocardiography performed by a pediatric cardiologist to the babies who failed in the test. RESULTS: During our research, there were 21,778 live births at Sakarya University Training and Research Hospital. 2700 of 21,778 babies could not be tested because they were admitted to neonatal intensive care. 66 infants (0.34%) were evaluated by a pediatric cardiologist because they did not pass the screening. Of the 66 data that failed screening, 13 (19%, 0.06% of all screened infants) were diagnosed with critical CHD. The sensitivity of the pulse oximetry test is calculated as 61.9%, the specificity is 99.7%, the positive predictive value is 19% and the negative predictive value is 99.9% and results close to the literature were obtained. CONCLUSİONS: Pulse oximetry test is a test that is of vital importance in critical CHD screening and stands out as a test that is low-cost, easily applicable and can also help in other diagnoses. More studies are needed to determine whether the test should be included in screening programs. Keywords: Congenital Heart Diseases, Critical Congenital Heart Diseases Screening, Pulse Oximetry Test
