Abstract (EN)
This research aims to determine what teachers' expectations are from education trade unions, based on the opinions of teachers who are members of public education trade unions. In this context, first of all, the development, authority, duties and responsibilities of trade unions as non-governmental organizations will be revealed based on the relevant literature. After the duties, powers and responsibilities of trade unions are theoretically revealed, the extent to which trade unions can carry out their activities in this context will be revealed based on the opinions of trade union member teachers. This research is qualitative research designed based on the phenomenological design. The data required for the research consists of teachers who are trade union members. In this context, teachers who would participate in the research were determined based on criterion sampling and maximum diversity sampling methods. According to the 2023 data of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, teachers from the three trade unions with the most members in Sakarya (Eğitim Bir Sen, Türk Eğitim Sen, Eğitim İş) will be included in the research. While determining the participants from each trade union, trade union members and trade union managers will be sampled. Considering all these criteria, it is planned that a total of 15 members, will participate in the research. Of the six participants who will represent each trade union, four will be trade union members and two will be trade union managers. Participants' opinions will be collected through a semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher. Content analysis management will be used to analyze the collected data. In the light of the data obtained, it is expected that findings will be revealed about what trade union member teachers' expectations are from their trade unions, which of their expectations are met or not met to what extent, whether the trade unions find the opportunities they provide adequately, and whether there are differences between trade unions in terms of trade union processes and meeting expectations. As the education community, we have expectations from public education trade unions such as job security, salary and personal rights, professional development, social and economic rights, democratic participation and representation, social responsibility and solidarity. Meeting these expectations is important for the general well-being of both education workers and society. Our study shows that trade union managers make similar criticisms with members in case of opposition, but unlike members, in case of being an authorized trade union, trade union managers refrain from making comments. It is also important to know what the factors are that cause this situation. Keywords: Trade Union, Trade Union Commitment, Transparency, Belonging
