SUMMARY In our study, no statistically significant difference was observed between the insulin and C-peptide levels of septic newborns who had a significant difference between the mean blood sugars (p <0.05) and septic hypoglycemic and no hypoglycemia. Although there is no absolute hyperinsulinism in septic hypoglycemic newborns, a statistically significant difference was found at p <0.05 when the insulin / blood sugar ratios of both groups were examined. There was a strong positive correlation between insulin and insulin / blood sugar ratio in the study group. In the septic hypoglycemic group, the insulin / blood sugar ratio is greater than 0.3 and there is a positive difference between insulin, insulin / blood sugar. the relationship indicated relative hyperinsulinism. Although the study group mean was higher between the serum IL-1 levels of septic newborns without septic hypoglycemic and hypoglycemia, there was no statistically significant difference. There was no correlation between blood sugar, insulin, C-peptide and insulin / blood sugar ratio and IL-1 levels in the study group. To the conclusion that relative hyperinsulinism is one of the causes of hypoglycemia in septic newborns. It was observed that systemic IL-1 did not contribute to the formation of hyperinsulinism, and as a result, it was thought that IL-1 might be an effective paracrine cytokine.
