Examination of emotional eating behaviors and emotional appetites of freestyle and greco-roman style wrestlers

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between emotional eating behaviours and emotional appetite of freestyle and gridiron style male wrestlers. Competitive male wrestlers who wrestled in the 2020/2021 season in the freestyle and gridiron style were included in the study. Personal information form prepared by the researcher, "Emotional Appetite Questionnaire" developed by Nolan et al. (2010) and adapted into Turkish by Demirel et al. (2014) and "Emotional Eating Scale" developed by Doğan et al. (2011) were used. The data obtained in the study were analysed with SPSS 26.0 package programme. It was found that there was no statistically significant difference in the emotional eating and emotional appetite scales of the athletes in terms of residence, education, meal, marital status, eating breakfast regularly and taking supplements (p>0.05). There is a positive correlation between negative emotional appetite and eating in situations of tension and eating to cope with negative emotions. There is a significant positive relationship between positive emotional appetite and self-control and control in the face of stimuli sub-dimensions. There is a significant positive relationship between emotional appetite positive emotion and eating in situations of tension and control over stimuli sub-dimensions. It was determined that there was a significant positive relationship between emotional appetite and negative emotion and eating in tension situations, eating to cope with negative emotions, selfcontrol and control in the face of stimuli. According to these results, emotional eating and emotional appetite of athletes do not change according to any variable. Keywords: Emotion, appetite, emotional eating behavior, nutrition, wrestling
