Determining the first aid knowledge levels of family members involved in the care of children with cerebral palsy: Yalova case

Children with cerebral palsy (CP) are more likely to encounter health problems and be exposed to accidents and injuries due to their convulsions and involuntary movements. For this reason, they need more first aid than other individuals. This study aimed to determine the first aid knowledge levels of family members involved in the care of children with CP and to plan studies to strengthen their first aid knowledge levels. To achieve this goal, the survey method, one of the quantitative research methods, was used. 100 family members living in Yalova and caring for children with CP participated voluntarily in this research. A survey form was used in the research, which included demographic information, knowledge and attitudes about first aid, and questions to measure the level of knowledge about basic first aid practices, consisting of 25 questions prepared by the researcher. The survey was carried out by phone in line with the contact information received from "Yalova Yeni Yaşam Disabled People Association". The data obtained as a result of the research was analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 (Statistical Package for Social Science) package program. As a result, it has been determined that family members who care for children with CP should be given both theoretical and practical first aid training in terms of the effectiveness of the training. At the end of this study, it will be planned to provide basic first aid training to individuals in need if they volunteer.
