Edition and crit of the book named Sharh al-Jassas a'la al-Jami al-Kabir

The book al-Jami al-Kabir authored by İmâm Muhammed Bin al-Shaybani, one of the three most important names of Hanafi Sect, has been highly regarded by the Hanafi Sect's followers. As a reflection of this, numerous studies have been performed over the centuries. Abu Bakir al-Jassas, one of the foremost scholars of Iraqi Hanafi Law School who have studied the book, has authored the explanatory book named Sharh al-Jami al-Kabir or Sharh al-Jassas a'la al-Jami al-Kabir. It is obvious that this book has had versatile crucial contributions to the Knowledge of Fiqh and its evolution. Therefore, it has been the goal of this thesis to conduct the verification and editorial critique of this explanatory book. The thesis consists of introduction and four main parts. In the Introduction section, importance of the topic and the nature, introduction of the considered copy in the edition and critic, method of the edition and critic. In Part One, a concise biography of Shaybani has been presented, and the book al-Jami al-Kabir has been investigated. In Part Two, a brief biography of Jassas as well as the characteristics of the Fiqh of that era have been presented; and then the status of Sharh al-Jami al-Kabir has been assessed comparatively with other explanatory books of al-Jami al-Kabir. In Part Three, the relation of the book with the Knowledge of Fiqh Maxims has been presented for its importance and high frequency of occurrence. Finally, four volumes of the sharh written by Jassas which consists of 813 pages. One of them is lost and -to our best assessment- one of the critic transkript text exist.
