ABSTRACTMASTER THESISDifficultties Which Teacher Encounter During The Application Of Teacher?s Phonetic BasedSentences Construction Method and Teacher Perceptions ,Afyonkarahisar Kocatepe UniversityThe Institute of Social ScienesAugust, 2006Advisor: Assistant Proffesor Mahmut BABACANThe purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions of first grade schoolteachers about the phonetic based sentences construction method in learning to read and writein Afyonkarahisar Province. In this study, it was also sought to determine the difficultieswhich teachers encounter during the application of phonetic based sentences constructionmethod.This study was conducted on 108 first grade school teachers in total. Among 108teachers, 55 of them were working in primary schools in the central county ofAfyonkarahisar, while 53 of them were working in primary schools in villages or suburbs inAfyonkarahisar.To determine the perception of teachers about the up and down side of the phoneticbased sentence construction method in learning to read and write, a questionnaire containing25 questions were applied to the teachers. Then, the teachers were asked to fill out an?observation form? about their view in classroom while using this method. The perceptionsof teachers was presented as a mean±stdev in tables, where as the teachers? view, suggestionsand their ideas about this methods were evaluated by using frequencies, percentages, andmean±stdevs. Independent groups T test were used to analyze two variables betweenteachers? ideas and proposals,. All findings were presented and interpreted in tables. Thedata from ?observation form? were also presented and interpreted in tables. Furthermore, theteachers?s support for six proposals that included in questionnaire were also presented andinterpreted in tables. The study was then completed by proposing important suggestions forthe phonetic based sentences construction method in learning to read and write.In conclusion, we have reached that teachers have positive perceptions about thephonetic based sentences construction method in learning to read and write.
