Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to reveal the problems that first grade primaryschool students encounter in phonic based writing and reading methods by employingitalic hand writing stills. One of the sub-purposes of the study is to find out theproblems the first grade students face with phonic-based methods. The other sub-purpose of the study was to reveal the improper applications of phonic based principlesfound in the book called ?I am learning readings and writing?.The sample of study consists of 15 elementary teachers working in12 differentprimary schools located in Didim-Aydın. Semi-structured interviews were employed tocollect data. To analyze collected the data, it was used the content and thematic analyzemethods. The results can be summarized as the following:*Students misread the letters due to incorrect pronunciations of letter.*Students could not combine any given two letters properly. Therefore, theycould not spell correctly because of teaching methods.*They also had problems in understanding what they read.Key words: Voice based reading and writing, elementary education
