Abstract (EN)

Turkey is a rapidly developing country. In connection with the development, demand for the energy also increases rapidly. As a consequence of it, energy is crucial for Turkey. However, Turkey's fossil energy resources do not meet the demand. In order to replace the deficient energy, Turkey is obliged to import petrol, natural gas and coal. Therefore, in 2012 Turkey spent 70 billion dollars on that importation and the money spent on this purpose increasingly grows annually. In order to develop domestic energy resources and meet the energy deficit, it is a necessity for Turkey to electrify the hydropower resources it has. To be able to achieve this, hydro energy potential of the country should be improved. This study aims at improving the hydro energy potential of the small river basins. To serve that purpose, the hydro electrical potential of the basin of Seydisuyu has been investigated. Data required to evaluate the water potential of the basin and to improve the hydro electrical potential is obtained by using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Simahpp software. Hydro electrical potential of 2 irrigation dams (Çatören Dam and Kunduzlar Dam) which are already constructed and operating is calculated. In addition to this, design of a new dam built on the lower course of the river is proposed. In conclusion, the total installed capacity of the 2 operating dams and the designed dam (together) is calculated as 1.463 MW and the annual amount of the total generated electricity is calculated as 6.31 GWh.
